COMMUNITY EXPECTATIONS
Located on the ancestral land of the Lenape, Carnarsie, and Matinecock peoples, Socrates Sculpture Park is a non-profit organization operating in partnership with NYC Parks.
Each year, Socrates Sculpture Park fundraises 100% of its operating budget—supporting all aspects of running the Park, from maintaining the grounds to programming creative offerings and caring for a place that many call home. With only 3-5% of our budget funded by public grants, Socrates depends on private fundraising, notably from foundations and corporations, as well as individuals who believe in what we do.
As an internationally renowned platform for public art and a New York City public park, we see our role as stewards of this land, emphasizing a commitment to social and environmental resilience.
By joining the Socrates community, we ask you to:
- Treat your fellow park goers, our staff, and the land with kindness and respect.
- Engage with artworks safely and appropriately as expressed on signage. Photography is permitted; otherwise, signs indicating restrictions should be adhered to.
- Participate in programs with an open mind and consideration for our natural environment and the cultures, identities, and histories represented.
- Honor registration for workshops, tours, and events with your timely attendance.
- Participate in activities according to the Park’s rules and facilitators’ requirements.
- Supervise your children, minors, dependents, and pets at all times.
